Fuentes de la investigación confirmaron que Melendi fue detenido, mientras que su promotora, Blue Donkey Music, consultada por Efe, desconoce los hechos, al igual que su discográfica EMI.
Melendi, que viajaba a México a promocionar el recopilatorio 'Caminando por la vida' y a participar el día 17 en un concierto de la gira 'Rock en Ñ', que organiza la SGAE en la ciudad de México, subió al avión con un grupo de gente en 'actitud no normal', según fuentes de Iberia.
El vuelo, un Airbus 340 con 180 pasajeros abordo, partió a las 01.50 de la madrugada y el cantante ovetense y un grupo de personas subieron a él con 'botellas propias y desde el principio se pusieron a beber' en clase preferente, pero manteniendo una 'actitud agresiva y ofensiva' con el pasaje.
Pidieron más bebida, según Iberia, y parece que se les negó, entonces la actitud fue 'todavía más agresiva', por lo que la tripulación avisó al comandante y este decidió regresar dos horas después del despegue.
El avión aterrizó y se dio aviso a la Guardia Civil, que recogió a Melendi para que prestase declaración y se pidió igualmente a la tripulación que detallase lo ocurrido. Los 180 pasajeros tuvieron que partir para México a las 11.30 de esta mañana.
